~English Version~

The geWERK, founded in 2008, follows the notion of building a platform for artistic exchange and creative process.

The name says it all: geWERK (meaning craft, trade, technical skills) stands for being active, creating things that have an effect on the world. In this process, art is understood as a living, breathing entity and not simply as a stencil to be used without further consideration. Art is being thought of as handiwork, as a craft, as a process to participate in. In the focus of this stands the idea that art is a crucial part of life, without which life would not be worth living.
Therefore, the house geWERK tries to be a place of creative dialogue, crossing generations, genres, disciplines and building bridges between them, especially helping aspiring, young artists and giving them a space to develop their ideas. The geWERK also wants to be a place for active, creative artists, people interested in art and culture in general, different ages, sexes, nationalities and unconventional thinkers to meet and create creative dialogue. In the course of this, transparency, openness, acceptance of opposites and contrasts and, of course, plurality are of special importance.

To achieve said dialogue, the geWERK supports artists by providing ateliers and by organizing presentations in the gallery accordingly. Those exhibitions cover disciplines like graphics, painting, object art, photography, performance and video art. To achieve interdisciplinary connections, this repertoire is completed by readings, concerts and discussions. All of these forms of presentation serve one purpose: providing room for art, discussion the meaning and dimensions of art and supporting creativity.
